While your orchid is in bloom, a few simple steps will insure your blossoms last a long while.
It's important not to over water your orchid. A shot glass of water per week is usually enough to keep your blooming orchid happy and healthy. Another way to make sure it's getting just a sip of water is to place a full-sized ice cube at the base of the plant each week.
Whichever way you decide, remember to water weekly - and weakly.
Avoid direct sunlight. Placing your orchid near a window is ideal. Most orchids appreciate a room where the temperature is cooler at night.
After your blooming spike has lost all its flowers, cut the stalk about an inch below the first bloom. A new branch may emerge and rebloom.
